The department of energy of U.S. has chosen Ford to do a research on flex fuel engines that are able to run with E85 and clean diesel fuels. So ford has done plenty of research in Michigan State University. Ford has focus on improving the flexible fuel engine in every day operation. Department of energy gave 4.5 million to Ford motor company so they can carry on their research on flexible fuel engines. Department of energy will give 21.5 million to fiance 11 cost shared research and development projects here in the United States. This research will focus on diesel boosting technology to improve efficiency and performance of the engine. The CEO of Ford Bill Jr. made a proud cast a commitment to produce 250,000 hybrid vehicles a year by then end of 2010. Ford Bill also said he intends to pursue a broader environmental strategy that is going to focus more on alternative fuel vehicles. Ford cut the fuel cell's size, weight and cost in half and said their approach would double the lifespan of the fuel cell's stack.

The Ford Edge is the first drivable fuel cell hybrid electric vehicle with a plug in. it also has the Hyseries drive technology which is able to operate using fuel cell, small gasoline or diesel engine connected to an electric generator to make electricity
