Michael William Krzyzweski, a native to Chicago, Illinois, has been one of the most dominant college coaches over the past two decades. He started off his coaching career at ARMY where he played college basketball under the legendary Bob Knight. Coach Knight later offered him a job as a graduate assistant at Indiana University. That 1975 squad posted an 18-0 Big Ten mark and a 31-1 record. He arrived at Duke in 1980. He has led Duke to three NCAA National Championships (1991, 1992, and 2001) and to ten Final Fours. His three championships tie him third all-time with Bob Knight (3) behind John Wooden (11) and Adolph Rupp (4), all of whom are members of the Basketball Hall of Fame. In over 20 years at Duke, Krzyzweski has compiled more than 600 career wins and is the winnigest coach in NCAA Tournament history with 66 wins. With ten Final Four appearances, Krzyzweski ranks third all-time in most Final Four appearances behind Wooden (12) and Smith (11). From 1988-92 Krzyzweski led Duke to five straight Final Four appearances and his 10 Final Four victories ranks second behind Wooden?s 21. Krzyzweski has led Duke to nine ACC Tournament Championships and ten ACC Regular Season Championships. He has been named ACC Coach of the Year five times and ranks second in most ACC wins. Krzyzweski has been named National Coach of the Year 10 times in 7 seasons. He was an assistant coach on the Gold Medal team in the 1992 Olympics. He was named the NABC Coach of the Decade for the 1990s.
