1. Discuss the role that physical preparation plays in enhancing the well
being of a young athlete who is preparing to compete in the city to Surf
run.
When an athlete is competing in the city to surf it is necessary for him/her to get ready in the correct manner in order for the competitor to stay injure free and reduce risk of injury. Physical preparation enables the body to better cope with the demands of the sport; this is done in several ways such as
Skill and technique
The city to surf is a 14 kilometre run which has many demands on the body as it is constantly putting pressure on the same amounts of muscles such as hamstrings and quads so therefore the athlete needs to ensure that he’s technique is correct so that these muscle groups stay injure free this can be done by keeping knees bent and stride compact so that your weight is directly over the balls of your feet which allows the work load to be taken off your larger muscle groups.
Safe sporting movement
Before the event the athlete should practise on all types of weather and what type of technique should be ran as injure can occur if it is raining and the athlete does not know how to run on this conditions he could fall over which may result in injure.
Flexibility
In the City to Surf good flexibility is required to avoid injury as the greater movement around the joint the less chance of a ligament damage if is extended beyond its normal range. However the athlete also needs to keep in mind that too much flexibility can decrease the strength in a joint and increase the chances of a dislocation. There are three types of stretches that can be doing static, ballistic and PNF, PNF being the best one and the recommend one.
