b) Individuals using the service and their carers Communication between individuals using the care service and their carers is important as it builds a good relationship and individuals can express their needs and preferences to the carer to ensure they are met. Effective communication allows the individual to know what options and choices are available to them regarding their care. Aiii Identify three ways of finding out the communication and language needs of an individual. For each method, describe how effective it is at establishing the needs of the individual. The service user would be a good and effective way of finding out information if they have the capacity to identify their needs.
People want to get views, wishes and information across to others for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes this can be essential or even life saving in the case of giving someone a warning if they are in danger. It can be vital to make a persons quality of life better if they are communicating that they are in pain or it can be to make emotional contact with others to express feelings. 1.2 Effective communication affects all aspects of working in adult social care settings. This can be anything from communicating with residents and finding out their wishes or needs to talking to doctors, social services and other outside support.
It is a basic requirement of my job role to communicate with individuals and their families, other members of staff on a daily basis. Communicating with other staff members ensures effective team working and continuity of care. First and foremost is the person I am supporting, but there is also their family and friends, who are likely to be involved in the support plan. I will also have to communicate with colleagues and with other professionals. The way in which i communicate will be different depending on the person I am communicating with and the purpose of the communication. Understanding a persons needs and conveying this to others so that they understand affects all aspects of my work.  All communication has an effect It is a two-way process called an interaction, and it is important to watch the effects so that any problems can be identified and dealt with.

The carer should get to know the client and use right communication for that service user. If the carer doesn’t use effective communication the service user could become frustrated and act out which could end up with bad behaviours. Such as if the service user doesn’t talk effective body language, writing things down and pictures could work well.

It is important to watch individual’s reactions to make sure they are not saying yes but feel uncomfortable with the situation.
