Coping with College


Most students who enter college are immediately overwhelmed with a range
of opportunities and challenges. Some are able to use positive coping skills, but others are
hindered by less developed interpersonal skills that could led to depression, eating disorders, stress and alcohol dependence.
Many colleges are faced with an unexpected crises or personal losses which can disrupt the college in many ways. It can lead to problems which impacts on student’s physical and mental health. For example alcohol, many students enter college feeling free and don’t know their limits. Stress is also a common problem among college students and can lead to academic problems if not dealt with appropriately.
For most college students the transition from living at home to a campus environment and also the demands of high school compared to college studies come with tremendous deal of stress. For example many college students have to decide whether to go out or to stay home and study. The key is to be able to use your time wisely. In college you face many social groups such as fraternities and sororities. These groups have a great influence on students’ choices. These groups may also tempt students surrender to peer pressure.
