Malls Galore

The whole scenario and the buying behaviour of the consumers have evolved over past 10 years. There has been a paradigm shift in the consumer preferences, tastes and his buying habits. The shopping center boom in India started nearly a decade after the signs of its evolutions was showed up in 1990’s, in the form of Spencer plaza in Chennai.

Traditional retail markets always had a focused consumer base because of their zone and need-specific presence, catering to large yet mixed clientele within a limited area of operation. Besides, these traditional markets also used to serve season-specific shopping needs, offering adequate room for bargaining, which were the need of that hour. Today almost after 15 years since the first mall was opened in India. The mall concept seems to be the next shopping place for a buyer.

Malls are finally

Malls are finally becoming a business platform for mom-and-pop shop owners and small entrepreneurs. Over the last couple of year, reams have been dedicated to comparing notes on the “Malling of India” and it projects nearly yielding of about 40.9 million square feet of quality retail space by 2006 of the 277 malls expected to come out, 77 malls are considered to get on the run by 2006.
