Has the US Political System really bankrupt itself due to the presidential campaigns?
According to David Caploe’s article “US Political System Bankrupting Itself – Literally”
It has bankrupted itself. Caploe (2008) stated that “so here we are -- in mid-late January of 2008, some 10 months before the election in November -- and, despite already having raised $400 million, most of the campaigns -- with the exception of multi-millionaire Mitt Romney, of course -- are, literally DESPERATE for funds. “
I don’t see how presidential campaigns in 2008 has bankrupted the US Political System, according to the article, $400 million has been raised by all the parties, obviously the donors are doing well to give that much money to their favorite presidential candidate or else the campaigns would not be able to raise $400 million, now would they ?
Besides some of the biggest donations are coming from the power-elites, for them spending in the tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands on their favorite candidate is like a drop in the bucket.
Caploe (2008) also stated that “the ridiculous amount of money that was being spent to offer voters...
