My Personal and Unique Experience
One thing that sets me apart from other applicants is my commitment to investing in the lives of children. I have been a group leader in the children’s program, Awana, every Wednesday night for three years. I help teach bible verses to kindergarten, first, and second graders, and am a godly role model and someone to look up to. Just by being there sets me apart; I am the only teenager that comes.
I know that I have made an impact on the kids, as they have on me. To Maddie, who runs to give me a hug when I walk through the door, or to Emelyn, who jumps in my lap every chance she gets, I am someone who cares for them. I am the official giver of the piggy back rides and lift to the water fountain. I am the leader who plays with the kids and is less strict.
After working in Awana for two years, last spring I decided to go to Mexico this summer to work with the children there. I was able to minister to those kids, but they made a bigger impact on me. God blessed me through them and I made lasting friendships with everyone I worked with.
Through volunteering and devoting time to kids for so long, I have grown to love kids and I want to work with kids for a career. I want to become a pediatrician to nurture children, the future of Kentucky, and do what I love.
