In this paper, I will be making recommendations for the Bead Bar Company for network topologies, network architecture and give the advantages and drawbacks for these. I will give background information on the company. I will also give an overview of my recommendations and discuss them in further details.
The Bead Bar is a company that specializes in allowing customers to create their own bead jewelry. Meredith S. is the owner of the Bead Bar. She has a total of six studios. The company has a total of about 35 employees. The annual revenues for the last three years have averaged about $1.5 million. In the beginning, the company’s records consisted of a rather large paper trail. They often lost work orders, fulfillment delays and incorrect invoicing. These types of mistakes can cause loss of business which leads to profit loss if not handled properly. I have been working with this company to get them up to date on the computer options that are available in the computer world. With all the options available today, I have assured them that we will be able to assist them in their desire to optimize their company with a system that fits their individual needs- thus decreasing the number of costly mistake made when depending on a paper trail.
So far the recommendations for the Bead Bar have been to get Personal Computers (PC) with 2.8 MHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, 120 GB hard drive, CD-ROM, and Windows XP Professional. It was also recommended to get Oracle’s Oracle 9i database. Oracle 9i is an enterprise database. With all this hardware and software the company should be able to put all data in the computer. No more lost work orders, fulfillment delays or incorrect invoicing. The computer will help them to be able to search online for more beads and order them online. This will also help with advertising as well as helping them keep their financial records straight.
