Not Easy, But Worth It
I was on my way home from work last month and I realized that it was time for me to quit putting of my education. I called my husband and said, “I am going back to school, and I will finish my degree!” Without hesitation he said that sounded like a great idea, and he would help in anyway that he could. My husband and I have been married for 9 years, 6 of which he was in school. He has a Bachelors of Science-Aviation, MBA, and is a FAA flight instructor. So, as you can see it should be my turn to further my education. I had mixed emotions about returning to school after being away for so long, and I knew it was not going to be easy. The three things I had to focus on once I decided to go back to school were the schools accreditation, schedule, and cost. These were the things that I knew would make or break my back to school experience.
All adults returning to school should have a plan. I did not want to end up like my sister who has a 4 year degree that she literally hung in her bathroom, above the toilet. The first step in my plan is to complete my four year degree. The next step would be to complete a teacher certification course. In order to be accepted into a teacher certification program I have to have a four-year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and a GPA of 2.5 or higher. I know what I need; now I must find the right University.
There were so many choices. Do I want to go to the campus? Do I want to do online courses? Do I just attend the community college for the first two years? However, the most important factor is finding a school that would work with my schedule. I have a two year old son and husband that I must make time for, and I work 40 hours per week. With this in mind I knew that an on online school would be the best choice for my situation.
