Give the Life or Give them Death?
    I believe the death penalty is bad for America because it has not reduced the homicide rates, it is not cost effective due the lengthy appeal processes allowed and the process does little to support or ease the suffering of the victims or their families.
    I would like to present information that shows that there are no fewer homicides when the death penalty is in place. According to _________Jost, “

If the death penalty was a good deterrent to criminals even one execution would deter crime and lower the homicide rate. Most criminals aren’t watching the news to see if they should commit a crime today because they might get executed. In most cases, their minds don’t care on bit about what society thinks of their actions or deeds.   Even the fear of getting caught isn’t enough to deter crime. From my personal experience, I can tell a story about the criminal that tried to break in my house when I was 13. He didn’t get in but he was caught by the police and denied it even though they had his footprints in the snow. The police told my parents that they had tried numerous times to convict this person but never managed to get enough evidence to keep him in jail. They were hopeful this time it would work due to the footprint. He was placed in jail for more than a month. Upon his release, we were notified. We don’t know if he was ever locked away for good or if he managed to hurt another person or steal more property because the system won’t tell the victim what actually happens. So did the idea of jail, deter more crime….I think not. So in my opinion, I don’t believe that the thought of execution would be enough to deter a criminal from murdering someone no matter what the situation is.
