Should the drinking age be lowered to eighteen, given that we can die for our country at eighteen as well?

It is funny, today, we, young Americans, have this idea that we should be able to drink at the age of eighteen. Although I am eighteen I do not agree with this proposal. It has been proven time after time that at this age we can not handle the type of responsibility that come along with drinking. But yet, we continue to use the classic excuse, "If we can die for our country we should be able to drink - Not!" This country has nurtured and sheltered us for the most critical eighteen years of our life, and we think they owe us something. Many kids, today, in other countries are starving, facing disease, and experiencing things children should never have to experience. We should consider ourselves fortunate and privileged to represent our country in its time of need. Not to mention, at the ripe age of eighteen many of us are beginning college and experiencing new things. However, if that is not enough, I still would not support the lowering of the drinking age. I would just argue that the government raise the draft age to twenty-one. Yes, it is true we can die for our country at eighteen, but I still firmly believe that twenty-one is an appropriate age for an individual to begin drinking legally.
College is a wonderful experience for many freshmen. It can also be a major burden, and that is without the peer pressure of drinking. At eighteen, many of us are beginning a new chapter in our lives and going to be experiencing new things. The last thing we need is another distraction. There are laws set in place for reasons; most are for our protection and well-being. Twenty-one is a very appropriate age for an individual to begin drinking legally. They have been in college for some time now, and should be adapted and capable of carrying out their work load as well as handling the responsibility that comes with drinking. On the other hand,...
