One of the most important experiences of my life would have to be when I received my black belt. I’m a first degree black belt. I had received my black belt on May 20, 2008. It had to be one of my most proudest moments of my life, but getting that black belt took me 4 to 5 years to receive and I had so many trials and tribulations to go through to get where I am today. I remember when I first walked into the karate doju I was greeted by this lady, she was tall, had muscular arms, she was around my height and she seemed very nice and had big curly 80s style hair. I thought this was going to be hard to fit in. But it was unusually at first I felt like the only big kid there in the room. It was me and my cousin Tristan and my dad and my uncle Tony, we had just started together he was eight I was thirteen, As time progressed I worked my way up to belt after belt. I went from a white belt to a yellow belt than to an advance yellow belt to a green belt than to an advances green belt to a purple belt to an advance purple belt next to a brown belt than an advanced brown all the way to first degree black belt. You see in Japanese form every child has to start out as a solid belt color and each time that they are ready to receive there next belt, they receive a strip on the belt which means advance. So your belt would look like a regular belt with a strip in the middle. But for the adults in kind of different, the adults learn faster than the kid’s do, so they don’t have to wear advanced belt until the hit advanced brown. The adults go from solid color or solid color belt every time there is a promotion As soon as I started the karate school my dad started too. But for me it wasn’t fun having your dad around, because most of the parents there don’t join there children the stand and watch.
