Five People You Meet In Heaven

Many people wonder what it is like to see loved ones who have gone on again, just ask Eddie. Eddie was a maintenance worker at Ruby Pier, a popular amusement park in full view of Eddie’s apartment. Ever since he’s wife, Margaret, died 20 years ago he has lived a life of isolation. The only human contact he had was the younger Ruby Pier coworkers.
Eddie played at Ruby Pier as a child with his older brother and friends. He began working there as a teen under the constant supervision of his Father, who held Eddie’s position prior to his untimely death. After returning from World War II, he resumed his “spectacular” life at the Pier, where he remained for the rest of his life.
Abuse from Eddie’s Father was a way of life. It started with neglect, evolved into violence and finally ended in absolute silence. His Father beat him in his drunken rants, but when Eddie returned from World War II his Father tried abusing him again. Eddie defended himself and blocked his Father’s punch. From then on his Father and Mother lived distant lives until his Father died of pneumonia.
Margaret and Eddie lived alone for the next few decades. The only thing getting them through the drudges of life was their “deep quiet love”. One of the common discussions they had was about adoption. Since Margarite could not bear children, adoption was one of Margaret’s priorities. Margaret and Edward enjoyed their life with no hick ups until Eddie’s thirty ninth birthday. They were fighting over the phone about Eddie’s winnings at the track. Margaret got in the car to meet him to reconcile but fate saw it another way. She was involved in a terrible accident that put her in the hospital for months. While she was in the hospital she found out that she had a brain tumor and died a few years later.
Remote solitude was the way of life for Eddie from then on, keeping his job at Ruby Pier to keep busy. Hobbling...
