Global Warming

Global warming is the rise in the earth’s temperature many predicted consequences; these include an increase in the volume of water which contributes to sea-level rise. Sadly, this topic was overlooked in light of other problems that seem to be more immediately demanding. For the last 20 years or so the subject of global warming has generated heated debate amongst the world’s brightest minds. The most popular theory believed to be the cause of global warming is the greenhouse effect, which was first proposed in 1970 as a model of climate change.

Greenhouse gases exist in our atmosphere and have warming effect on the global weather. They trap radiated heat and prevent it from exiting the
atmosphere. This is believed to cause the melting of the polar ice caps which cause the rise in the sea-level. Changing human lifestyles cause an increased emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases to earth’s atmosphere (Wood, R.W,1909)

Another hypothesis would be the plate tectonic movement that is believed to cause global warming as well. Plate tectonics can also cause considerable climate change; it can cause the poles to get separated from warm ocean currents or vice versa. Volcanic emissions and solar activity are also debatable factors that cause global warming. According to the solar variation theory, the sun has been gaining strength and is at it’s strongest since sixty years. Sunspots are also said to be a catalyst for global warming (Svensman,2001) some scientists suggest that the number of sunspots in an area directly affects the amount of time the nearby earth takes to cool.

There are many reasons behind in which scientists come up with a new hypothesis. Some say it’s the government’s way of concealing the truth so that peace and order would be kept.
