George Washington University has appealed to me since the beginning of my college search. It offers everything I could ever want to study, and it is the ideal location for me. I am interested in science, and I may eventually seek a future in medicine or the health sciences. Through the College of Arts and Sciences, I could explore a BA or BS in biology, or majors in biological anthropology or biophysics. The idea of having so many choices relating to one field is very exciting to me. There are a number of other subjects I have never studied that might lead me in new directions, and GW would give me the opportunity to discover those possibilities. The variety of options, and GW’s reputation for academic excellence, has convinced me to apply Early Decision.
The first time I visited Washington, D.C. I fell in love with the city, just like I did with GW. Growing up in New York City, I’m definitely a city girl, and the idea of also being in the nation’s capital attracts me. I like the fact that Washington, DC is part of GW’s campus, but that the students I met when I visited still identify with the school and have great school spirit. In addition, walking around GW and talking to students, I learned that there is diversity within the school as well as in the city. Although I have known diversity in New York City, that hasn’t been the case in my small independent school, and I know I would benefit from having all different kinds of people in my classes and dorm.
Although both Washington, DC and the GW community made me really want to the go to George Washington University, I was most concerned with the academics and class sizes. My research has made it clear that both the academic atmosphere and the size of the classes are right for me. I am impressed that even though GW is a large institution, most classes are not huge – except for the introductory ones, which is typical at most schools.
