The Indian Jaunt I’ve had



It all started when our professor, Ms. Gladys P. Nalangan, announced to our class about the India-ASEAN programme. Thanks to her. At first, I wasn’t that eager, but I changed my mind thinking that nothing would be lost if I will apply. So I did and wasn’t expecting that I would be chosen. But my name was selected to be one of those who would go to India. I was so ambivalent. I was exhilarated to visit it. But as the day of our leaving approached, I feel exhausted that in the remaining one and a half week, I have to put things in order. These includes visiting the embassy of India and residence of the ambassador for a TV interview on a different day, completing the necessary requirements of the professors and letting the professors know about this whole thing, carrying out the activities of the organization which I’m presiding, and most of all preparing the stuffs that I would be bringing and pack them. After all, it’s worth it.

We went to different places in India- Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Jamshedpur, New Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra. I’ve observed some important points when it comes to their culture and economy. All this time I thought that they are focusing more on the agricultural aspect. I was wrong. They firstly prioritized the Information Technology which is not so evident, followed by Education as a whole. One name stands out- Tata. It monopolizes everything- telecommunications, electricity, water, intelcom, internet, and etc. As to language, the first thing I noticed there is the ability of the Indians to speak in English not so fluently but good enough. Speaking of the people, I saw the difference between a northern Indian men/women having fair to white complexion, blue eyes, and are tall and a southern Indian men/women having dark complexion, black/brown eyes, and are medium built.
