Personal Statement

Standing in a twenty-foot tamarindo( tamarind) tree, I was enjoying the warm morning. I could see bright green of the valley right below and hear the footsteps of the horses on their way to work. I had finish taking down the ropes used to support the lona (canvas) from yesterdays wedding, so I decided to come down from the tree. I looked down and started maneuvering my way down. Clinging on from one branch to another so I would not fall, I was half way down. I place my left boot between a branch that spread outwards in opposite directions. I then stretched down for a lower branch while using my right leg under one of the branches for support, I started to release it. I heard three cracks and felt and intense pain on the inside on my left knee, I had gotten trap between the two branches. I stiffen my body from going any lower. Pushing with my upper body to get back up I stretched my right leg to regain support under the branch, I release my left leg. The damage had been done in a matter of a second, but I knew I had to get down as soon as I could. I release my right foot and knew the only thing that was going to keep me from falling to the ground was my hands, so I clasped them as hard as I could to the branch. I became perpendicular with the ground but was still three feet away from it and had just one leg to land on. I let go of the branch and hit the ground, I was now safe. I limped to my aunts’ patio, which was five feet away.
I laid down on my back starting to think what was going to happen to me, it was my left leg. I could have been seriously injured and never heal completely. Sports athletes have ended their careers due injuries like the one I had endured. I was not going to let this injury stop me but I was scared. What if it was a life changing injury? I knew this could not stop me. I got up and limped to my house, which was just one house away but at that moment it looked so far away. I had to take the stairs...
