Act 1 Scene 2, Line 129
In this soliloquy, Hamlet expresses how aggravated at life he is. I think if it weren’t for the idea of God he might have even killed himself. He is not really morning his fathers death in this soliloquy but more his disgust for his mother for marring his uncle so soon after his father’s death. He then goes on to explain he must stay silent about the situation. He is explaining to the reader that nothing can undo the situation to make it any better. But this just isn’t good enough for Hamlet. He feels something has to be done. This soliloquy sparks an interest in the reader and provides a glimpse into Hamlet’s thoughts while informing the audience of the history of his family’s tribulations.
Act 1 Scene 5, Line 92
In this soliloquy Hamlet speaks his vows to the reader of how he feels he needs to get revenge on his uncle. It seems he is also trying to erase any other way his father might have died from his mind except that of what the ghost had informed him of. The ghost, Hamlet’s father, had explained to him that Claudius had killed him with a poison and that his soul couldn’t rest until revenge was brought onto his brother. The reader notes Hamlet’s promise to make Claudius pay for his murderous ways. Already, the reader is excited by reading Hamlet’s promise because it is giving them something to look forward to.
