A you transition from childhood to adulthood many events take place that could effect you dramatically. For some it’s a disability and for others it could be the death of a loved one. Me personally, as I was maturing had one situation that greatly affected the perosn that I am today. I feel that this experience is what will have the biggest impact on my college experience at the University of Florida.
At the young age of seven most girls have already had their two front teeth fall out and their adult teeth have grown in. They have beautiful confident smiles and have no idea what it would be like not to have this typical thing. I would greatly love to say that I was one of those confident girls, but the truth is I wasn’t. One of my front teeth had made the transition, but the other was left behind. Next to this stunning, sparkling, new tooth was this hideous, rapidly decaying reminiscence of my adolescence. At the age when I should have been outside playing with my Barbie’s, I found myself sitting in the dentists office, terrified. I later got the report that I was in desperate need of oral surgery. My rotten tooth needed to be extracted in order to rescue the tooth that should have come down already.
Two moths later my oral surgeon had me under anesthesia and was slicing away at my gums. Before this I had my rotten tooth extracted. In order for the operation to be successful the dentist had to put a band on the tooth which he then connected to my first set of braces with a metal chain. The tooth had to be painfully forced to grow in. Not to mention the surgery was the day after Christmas. When I thought all the pain, suffering and embarrassment had seized, I found out that I would need another set of braces to fix my crocked teeth. Not only that, also an expander to make my tiny jaw larger. I had braces ll through middle school and got them off a week before I began attending high school. I could finally enjoy my teeth.
