I would like to focus my essay on the topic of abortion and whether or not it should be legal or not. This subject interests me because abortion is a really deep subject, think of what we could have lost over the years because of abortion. When ever I think of abortion I am reminded of Beethoven. Beethoven's mother already had 8 children, 3 of which were blind, 2 deaf and one mentally retarded and on top of that she had syphilis. During this time she was pregnant with Beethoven; What if this was modern times and the woman had an abortion? We would be without one of our worlds most revered and respected composers ever. Through all of the abortions over the years think of all the great minds that we could have lost, maybe someone who would have found a cure for cancer or AIDS or some other world problem we are facing right now. At the same time though what if a woman were raped? Should she be allowed to have an abortion? This posses a problem, she obviously didn't ask to be raped, it was not her choice to have sex, it was forced upon her. If abortion were to be made illegal, maybe the law would allow such cases to pass. Also I don't know how it would affect people either. First of all abortions aren't the safest of procedures to begin with, so illegally preformed abortions would be even less safe. I believe that it would also make people more responsible, if the choose to have unsafe sex they no longer have a fall back plan. In today's times people go out and have sex freely and if she, the woman, becomes pregnant she can simply go out and have an abortion. If abortion were to be made illegal then people would have to be very careful about if they used protection or not. Another point is that it is the woman's body, she should have some say right? Again though it falls into the whole responsibility category. I just don't know where this will all lead to in the future.
The first article that I read was a Pro-Choice article written by Andrew Lewis...
