Deforestation of the Amazon:
Causes, Effects and Solutions

When people look at forests they assume that it is a group of trees that reside very closely to one another, but forests serve a much bigger purpose than just meets the eye . They are homes to millions of plants, animals, bacteria, organisms and processes that are vital to human existence. Yet their interconnectedness and importance in earths ecosystem is unfathomable. Though great progress is being made in identifying the importance of the forests, it will be difficult to truly understand the full range of ecosystem services the forest provides.Nonetheless, it is worthwhile to attempt to understand the value of the forest because it is being destroyed at an alarming rate.
The word deforestation has multiple meanings. Literally speaking it means to clear an area that was once forested with trees, but socially speaking, it carries a much deeper meaning.It is one of mankinds most important issues because of its uknown biological, social and economic effects. on the future. The saying goes " there's two sides to every story", but in this case "truth has a thousand faces". More specifically, we are talking about the Amazon rainforest, often described as "the lungs of our planet" .The best way to interpret , critique and analyze deforestation in the Amazon is too look it at through various lenses. This discussion will take you through three of those lenses: deforestation and its biological imporatance, deforestation and its sociological importance and deforestation and its economic importance. Only after analyzing the issue through these lenses, will you have enough knowledge to formulate an expert opinion on the issue. Once we have examined the issue through these lenses, a section of solutions will present some alternatives to the proliferation of this problem.
