Teacher Efficacy

Teacher efficacy is believed to be strongly linked to teaching practices and student learning outcomes (Eslami & Fatahi, 2008). Therefore it’s very important for teachers to examine their perceptions of their effectiveness in regards to their teaching abilities. By knowing which areas they need to improve, teachers would increase their professionalism and ultimately better shape students’ educational experiences. In this paper I will reflect on my abilities and my effectiveness of the various teaching qualities based my teaching experience.
I believe that I’m highly effective in controlling students’ learning and students’ attitudes and behavior. In my experience I have dealt with many unmotivated students and I was able through compassion and by setting limits I was able to make an environment where they would feel motivated to learn. According to Kottler compassion plays a crucial importance in education and at the same time it’s vital to set limits for the students to follow in order to give everybody an equal chance to learn (Kottler, J. Zehn, S. & Kottler, E. 2005). When setting the classroom limits I try to make the learning environment fun and therefore more appealing to every student, even the unmotivated students.
When students feel that learning is fun they will have positive attitudes and behaviors towards learning, this is because learning is not just a matter of passing on facts and presenting materials, it’s rather an internal activity in which a person feels motivated learn but it most importantly it must be fun and enjoyable.
Since most of my teaching experience was from substituting and tutoring I will not be able to determine my control over my abilities to control on making decisions about the curriculum, instruction, and assessment, grading and reporting, texts and materials, and schedules.
