This book is written by a young adult with Down syndrome. Bryan, who wrote the book along with his dad, speaks from his heart about his disability, “It is not my fault. I just am.” This active young man has a bubbly personality; he knows that he's not stupid, but acknowledges that he is slow. He knows that he does not look normal, but questions just what that means. I am not perfect. Who is? I look different. Doesn't everyone? The snapshots, from toddler hood to the present are not real clear, which perhaps adds character. He also shares his dreams and emotions like everyone else. While reading this book one gets to see his friends, pets, bedroom, activities, and family, and learn how very much he is like his peers. Concluding information describes medical ailments associated with Down syndrome, suggests language usages (avoid saying that someone is a Downs), and presents statistics and endorsements. This engaging and helpful book updates older titles that might describe people as suffering from or being afflicted with mental retardation.

This Book is a great book. I think there needs to be more books like this one. It shows the emotion he feels and how his everyday life is. His hopes and dreams are no different than any one else’s.

As a teacher I am going to inform my students about all types of various disabilities children might have. I do not want a child to be made fun of because of his special needs. I plan to read and introduce these types of books to my students. They need to realize having a disability doesn’t make you different.
