Janie’s Undying Quest for Love All human hearts, at their core, desire love. What this love comes to mean can differ from person to person. How one is brought up can greatly influence their view on what true love is and, for some, leave them without happiness. In Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God, Janie finds true love only when she lets go of what society is telling her to do. Although her Grandmother taught her that love is settling with a wealthy man, Janie does not give up on her vision of love.

While he seems to be focusing his entire speech tohimself on this idea, Friar Lawrence so easily contradicts it only a fewscenes later, when he marries Romeo and Juliet. By marrying the youngcouple, Friar Lawrence is not even following his own ideas, because eventhough marrying Romeo and Juliet is a good act, doing it so hastily makes it abad one. This ties in to another, closely related one of Friar Lawrence’sideas, which is that a good action done in a bad way can form a bad action, ashe says: “Virtue itself turns vice, being misapplied…” (II.ii.17). This againshows that the good act of marrying Romeo and Juliet, if done wrong bydoing it too quickly, can become bad act.

Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby, idealized love strongly motivates the key characters Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. While their journey together begins as a brief fling, the two are soon engrossed in a lifelong relationship filled with undying affection and enduring regrets.
Henry and Roy who both tells a story of their idealistic past, can be grouped together as the ones, who believes in the existence of idealistic love which tends to be fanciful like their own childhood memories. Roy claims that his love is equivalent to “Mozart’s love” which characterises the romance with happy endings. Henry’s depiction of his mother’s devotion has the sense of artificiality, and it’s almost like as if he forces the story upon himself to avoid other alternatives. I enjoyed the fact that the romance of the 50’s is still very true to romance of today although we have fallen far from the class and well-spoken poise that is Grace Kelly. The story then is still the same story now; the girl always wants the boy who doesn’t want her. In this case, the well-established socialite model wants the dirty photographer. It is the classic tale of “you want what you can’t have”.
He is saying that is might not be wise for loving him, but he swears it won’t be stupid for he is going to be “horribly” in love with her. The word choice of “horribly” emphasizes a sense of awkwardness because he doesn’t know the first thing when it comes to love. It also gives a bit of that comical side to Benedick’s character, even in the name of love, he still can’t forget about the competition between him and Beatrice.
