Why Abraham Lincoln is an American Hero


Why is Abraham Lincoln an American Hero? I think he’s a hero because he has accomplished many great things and was present during many wonderful events and I think he should be well known and acknowledged. Now I’ll give you a little background of Lincoln childhood. Lincoln was born in Hodgenville, Kentucky, on February 12, 1809 in a cabin with 1 door, 1 window, 1 chimney, and a hard packed floor. He was a poor farm boy. He grew up swinging an ax on Frontier, Indiana and Illinois. As Abraham grew up, he worked many different places and moved all around. He had many jobs and was always changing his ideas. The reasons why he is a hero is because he led a successful presidency, he freed the slaves and led one of the greatest battles in Gettysburg.

My first reason why I think Abraham Lincoln is a hero is because he led a successful presidency. Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States of America, serving from March 4, 1861 until his assassination. As an outspoken opponent of the expansion of slavery in the United States, Lincoln won president later that year. During his term, he helped preserve the United States by leading the defeat of the secessionist Confederate States of the America in the American Civil War. He introduced measures that resulted in the abolition of slavery, issuing his Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and promoting the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to the constitution.

My second reason is he freed the slaves. After having smaller, less important government jobs, he became the President of the United States of America. During his presidency, the Southern states wanted to become a different country because the Northern states wanted to stop slavery but the Sothern States wanted slavery. On July 1st, 1863, Lincoln made the Emancipation Proclamation which freed three million slaves. So as you see he was very caring...
