“College: a constituent unit of a university, furnishing courses of instruction in the liberal arts and sciences, usually leading to a bachelor's degree.”(www.dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.0.1)) A student’s definition of college might be: a constituent unit of a university, furnishing courses of one on one partying, instruction of staying up late and sometimes skipping classes, usually leading to a good time and a hope of not failing. Well, not all students have this last definition in mind, but some do. Though some students when they start college say, “I am going to do great this semester; nothing is going to get in my way.” We all know that along our way we are going to have some walls keeping us from getting that “A”, keeping us from getting that scholarship, and preventing us from walking across that stage.
Organization, or the lack there of, is some people’s wall, and one of mine. I have always had trouble staying organized. I believe it is my biggest wall to climb over. Usually I will start out staying well organized, and then slowly build my construction of the wall. My senior year I took an Adult Living class. The first nine weeks was a breeze and I had done well, but the second nine weeks our teacher assigned a task. The project consisted of folders that had to completed by the end of the nine weeks. Each folder’s task was focused on something we would encounter as we got older and began college. Many students me included, thought, “oh well that is enough time.” But we were wrong; we had not anticipated the week of prom activities and spring break interrupting our schedule. The project’s objective was to show us how important it is to stay organized. I learned my lesson. Staying organized is still a wall that keeps me from doing my best sometimes, but with the lesson my teacher had taught me that year, I have noticed I have taken more responsibility with my organization skills.
