A. One problem many of today’s teens are facing is drug and alcohol usage.
B. Everyday more and more teens are getting into the habit of smoking and drinking.
C. Peer Pressure, family issues, and social life
II. Peer Pressure: friend encouragement
A. Friends encourage friends to do it because it’s cool.
1. The teen smokers and drinkers try to get their friends to just try it
2. Who wouldn’t want to do it?
B. Teen’s closest friends tell them to just try it.
1. Just one sip and/or hit.
2. If you don’t like it then you can stop.
C. You trust me don’t you?
1. Have I ever let you down before?
2. This is for your good.
D. Friends are one of the major reasons teens are experimenting with drugs and alcohol.
E. Additionally, Teens wanting to fit in is another reason why teens experiment with drugs and alcohol.
III. Peer Pressure: wanting to fit in
A. It’s the new trend around school
1. Everybody is doing it.
2. Your best friends are doing it.
B. Teens want to fit in.
1. All the popular kids are doing it.
2. It’s the way to get in with the popular crowd all teens want in high school.
C. The way to impress the kids at school
1. Teens might be labeled “cool”.
2. Teens finally get the feeling of completeness when they’re “cool”.
D. Wanting to fit in is another top cause to why teens smoke and drink.
E. In addition, family is also why teens may smoke and drink.
IV. Family Issues: Issues At Home
A. Death in the family.
1. Teens lose someone close to them and feel drugs may help with the healing.
2. Drugs or alcohol may ease the pain and help with faster healing.
B. Issues at home.
1. Many teens are beaten at home.
2. Drink to take away feeling of hurt, sorrow and betrayal.
C. Teens have hard lives
