Since beginning my high school career at New World School of the Arts, I have definitely evolved as a person, and as a musician. I have come to the realization that while I may not choose to forever play the clarinet, I definitely do enjoy the thrill that comes with learning a new piece and creating beautiful music. I can appreciate the richness, the history that comes with playing a piece by Debussy or Stravinsky. As my skill improves, so does my awe and admiration for the geniuses of long ago.

One of the things I enjoy the most about being a part of the wind ensemble is how every day I feel a part of a larger, pulsing organism. It amazes me how the band works as a whole. That feeling of being a part of something, of depending on others and of being depended upon, is incomparable. The precision necessary in making a band work, in making the sound seem as full and solid as possible, is simply amazing. What I am constantly reminded of each day is how it is really necessary to put life into the writing we see on the pages. To read and play the music seen is one thing. But to take it and transform it into a glorious story being told, which all pieces are besides marches and such, is the true art.

As I have already stated, there is much emotion and expression that goes into every good piece of music. While here, surrounded by probably the finest musicians I will ever work with, I will contribute as much effort and devotion as needed. I play as musically and passionately as I know how, and work to improve and give all that is needed and expected from me. In my opinion, being in this wind ensemble is a privilege, and I want to give the best attitude and performance as I can.
