“No Child Left Behind” – Consequences Faced by Children
Introduction
There are several grave issues involved in the implementation of the “No Child Left Behind Act”. NCLB act was promulgated on 2002, and now more than six years after that our president was elected, the nation is analyzing the NCLB’s effect. Parents, educators and psychologist are concern because they are finding out the NCLB plan is imperfect with unsuitable evolution, and it is leaving schools, teacher and students at the back than ever before. This essay will analyze the controversy created around this NCLB opponents and defenders’ attitude towards consequences faced by children.
NCLB’s Main Focus
The NCLB had been focused mainly in the improvement of academic achievement of public school students considered jeopardized for school failure around the country. Therefore the states and school districts are challenged to make stronger their efforts to encourage students’ success. NCLB legislation promotes four essential principles: accountability for results; intensification of teachers’ quality; confirming advancement through annual assessments; and increasing alternatives for parents of children from underprivileged conditions. This law supports these principles through rewards given for schools that gather or surpass the academic hopes; funding the schools that need special assistance to meet NCBL requirements; and identifying the schools that delayed in progress toward state parameters.
What Opponents say?
Educators, parents, and psychologist think that the way that NCBL was conceived will not meet its endeavors. McReynolds (2005) contend, “In fact, it will increase the achievement gap it seeks to close, and it will lower, not raise, educational standards.” Educators’ looks and feels NCLB as a threat by reason of this legislation requires public schools to meet federally mandated standards in reading and math or schools will face sanctions,...
