The Three Gorges Dam in China Essay

The Three Gorges Dam is the largest water control project in the world. With the best intentions of its creation, it is mainly to help the economy of China. The dam is designed to create hydro power to assist citizens with their jobs and industries. However, the creation of the dam has managed to increase earth’s pollution, flood many structures and destroy the natural diversity. The Chinese government though, claims that the dam will help the Chinese people and fix the high demand of electricity, while the Three Gorges Dam was destroyed bodies of water in the environment, surroundings of the Dam and the ancient culture of the Asian population. The Dam should not be tarred down, but the generation and process should stop.
The Dam spans in the Yangtze River by the town of Sandouping, located in the Yiling District of Yichang in the province Hubei, China. The project is known to be the most commonly known water system with a 13 kilometer stretch, a 200 meter height, and a reservoir of over 300 meters of depth and 600 kilometers width. Since the Chinese government came up with the idea of creating the Dam, over 25 billion dollars of concrete and steel came from the international banks and was manufactured into the Dam’s creation. It took 17 years, from 1992 to 2009 to build this atrocious structure with the assistance of 10 000 powerful and determined workers. The finished product of the Dam now diverts 100 000 kilometers of freshwater into hydroelectric power. The amount of water that is diverted can almost produce energy close to 15 Nuclear Power Plants!
