This story we read during the break was a story that really touched my heart, this book made me think of many things differently and I have defiantly appreciated Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck. I have a lot of things to say about the positive aspects of this book in many different elements.
I really enjoyed this book. When I first picked it up the summary on the back did not look too good, I wasn’t happy that we would be reading a book that I wouldn’t enjoy. Also since “The Pearl” is by the same author my expectations where minimal. When I started to read this book I really came into touch with the characters, I really saw what they where about and I could understand what they where going through. The ending was very beautiful; I thought that it was good that George killed Lennie and not Curley or one of the others. The ending almost put Lennie at peace, that’s where nobody would get angry and him and he could live in peace.
My favorite character was Lennie; I really felt that he expressed his emotions the most. Lennie related to me the most because he created this essence of a kid who was very happy with their life and just wanted something simple. Since Lennie acted like a kid his influence on other characters was sometimes at first negative but once you get to know him better he’s just a nice big fellow. I wish that people would see others with disabilities like this; they are great people if you get to know them, and sometimes a stupid stereotype ruins everything.
I believe that this story is extremely different from the Odyssey. The Odyssey was more of an Epic, it was a drawn out story where my attention wasn’t at its peak throughout parts of the book. Of Mice and Men was very short so it didn’t take much for you to keep reading, it was too the point and you wanted to find out what happens in the End.
