INTRODUCTION
Psychology is a science based on observations and theories. It is the scientific study of behaviour and the mind (the conscious and unconscious mental states that cannot be seen, but inferred through observation). It the study of how human beings and animals sense, think, learn and know through objective methods of observation and experimentation. Modern psychology is the collecting of facts and turning them into psychological theories to explain people's behavior and sometimes to predict and influence their future behavior. Since at least the time of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle in ancient Greece, psychological topics have inspired lively curiosity. The science of psychology was born in 1879, founded by Wilhelm Wundt. Since then psychology has been an ever-growing scientific field.
Psychiatry is a branch of medicine dealing with the prevention, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of the mind and mental illness. Its primary goal is the relief of mental suffering associated with symptoms of disorder and improvement of mental well-being. This may be based in hospitals or in the community and patients may be voluntary or involuntary. Psychiatry adopts a medical approach but may take into account biological, psychological, and social/cultural perspectives. Treatment by medication in conjunction with various forms of psychotherapy may be undertaken and has proved most effective in successful treatment. Physicians in Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece sought to explain and treat mental disturbance, notably melancholy and hysteria, but medieval thought focused on the concept of demonic possession or supernatural...
