Gay marriage as been defined as the same sex marriage known as civil union while the definition of marriage is a social union between a man and a woman who come together and become husband and wife. Gay marriage has been a controversial issue in our society as well as the global world. There is a debate whether gay marriage should be considered a marriage and also if gay marriage should be accepted in the society.
When comparing heterosexual marriage to gay marriage, some differences can be found. In gay marriage, same sex couples sleep or have sex with each other and they can not have babies. Unlike the heterosexual marriage that a man and a woman sleep or have sex together and they can produce babies.
Mainly, the reason for marriage is to have a family and that both parents will be available to provide the needs of the family. Basically, the family consists of the father, mother and child. But that does not rule out the fact that gay marriage can not have a family. When two gay people come together as a couple, one becomes the man while the other becomes the woman and they can decide to adopt a child and become a family too. Robert knight, a director of concerned Women for America (CWA) stated that “Family benefits were originally created to provide for a stay-at-home parent caring for a child, not for homosexual sex partners who usually work” (Cahill, 473). That statement is not necessary true. Gay couple can decided to have a family of their own and all the need to do is adopt a child and they are considered a family or if it’s a lesbian couple, one of them can decided to do In vitro fertilization (IVF) which means the removal of ova from a woman mixing it with the sperm of man and then put the fertilized egg back in the woman’s uterus. And I like the past tense he used “were originally”. Basically he saying that before the benefit of a family is to care for a child but now homosexuals can...
