Am I a republican or a democrat? Well that is something that I truly have never put much thought into ever before. I have always thought of myself if anything an independent. Watching the news over the years, and seeing a few presidential elections, hearing what both sides have to offer, it always seems I like some of each parties ideas. In this presidential election between McCain and Obama, I believe both have some good points that they are trying to make. I love how McCain has military time under his belt, as we are in a time of war right now. I think he would be better fit into the president today, but if we were not in a time of war, that opinion would probably change. From what I am getting from Obama’s ads that I see on television, he wants to make some good changes for this country that we could use. I just do not see him handling the war situation as well as McCain would handle it. I could be completely wrong on this though because I usually run away when I hear anything that has to do with politics on television. I try to listen to some of it, but it is just really boring to me.
I think that both parties have some positive things that they add to our government. One president that has me leaning towards republican more than democrat is Abe Lincoln. He was the president that changed civil rights in our country, and made a huge step forward in our lives. It was his republican view that made him want to free the slaves. Another thing about the Republican Party that I like is the fact they emphasize strong national defense. I know 9/11 happened, and should have been stopped before the planes reached the city, but before that we did not seem to have a threat of that caliber. Now that 9/11 has happened, our national defense seems to be a whole lot tighter. Just trying to get through an airport these days is a hassle and takes hours.
