Causes of obesity
Obesity has become an anxiety for many people in our culture. The obesity rate among Americans has gotten worse over the years. The topic of weight is very prevalent among people in today's society. Everywhere you look, you see people of different weights and appearances. Wide, fat and skinny are just a variety of the words we use to describe people. Not many people are completely satisfied with their weight. People are constantly looking for ways to better themselves and improve their physical appearance. In our society, obesity has become a defining problem of American culture.
So many people are overweight or obese today due to a number of factors. There are three main causes of obesity, which are sedentary lifestyle, health condition and lack of sleep.
Many Americans are not very physically active. One reason for this is that many people spend hours in front of TVs and computers doing work, and leisure activities. In fact, more than two hours a day of regular TV viewing time has been link to overweight and obesity. Other reasons for not being active include relying on cars instead of walking, fewer physical demands at work or at home, because of modern technology and conveniences, and lack of physical education classes in schools for children. People who are inactive are more likely to gain weight because they do not burn up the calories that they take in from food and drinks.
Some hormone problems may cause overweight and obesity, such as underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) and Cushing's syndrome. Underactive thyroid is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormone. Lack of thyroid hormone will slow down your metabolism and cause weight gain.
