The History Department offers a four-year undergraduate program with the aim to teach students how and where to research the civilizations and history of primarily Turkish and then other nations and also any other topic.
Within the framework of Turkish history, pre-Islamic Turkic history (Hun, Turkish khanates, etc.), Central Asian empires and states (Seljuk, Turk-Mongol, Timurian, etc.), the Ottoman political, social and economic histories from the formation to the last period; social, cultural and economic histories of contemporary Turkic states and societies, the histories of Europe, Middle East and Russia, as well as Mediterranean cultural and art history, our students will obtain a basic knowledge about the civilization and past of Turkey and neighboring countries. The Department of History offers a variety of courses in Turkish history spanning the pre-Islamic, Ottoman, Republican and Modern.
In addition to those listed above, English for historians, Ottoman language, historical methodology, research and information survey courses and also the BA thesis that the student will produce, students will be furnished with necessary research skills. During the eight semesters education program, in accord with individual desires and interest areas, by a minimum of 18 credit electives either from the department or the other departments, student horizons will be broadened. Successful students may apply for double major or additional major programs.
Our students in a comfortable and clean environment have the advantage of being in classes of 10-15 people. By meeting with faculty members face to face at least twice a week during arranged hours, and by being able to apply for assistance in academic and social problems, students have the opportunity to receive full benefit from our educational program.
