Promoted by life ambition, I desire to pursue a Ph.D. degree in Economics, perfectionating myself as much as possible in order to be well-prepared for future career in Economics research or in government.
Most people in China and even throughout East Asia are influenced tremendously by Confucianism, and I am no exception. I am a believer in the traditional moral values that a man should carry the ambition and responsibility of ‘cultivating humaneness in himself, promoting family values, governing the country, and bringing forth a halcyon world’. Although there is no uniform way to achieve this encouraging ambition, the pith behind is always the same: one must first perfectionate himself as a human being before he can plant harmony in his polity. To be a teacher is one way, to be a physician is one way, to be a physics scientist is one way; studying economics, is also one way.
In fact, my childhood dream was to become an astronomer or a rocket scientist to explore the mysteries of the outer space. I thought it was the way through which I could realize my life ambition. However, the perspective of how to achieve the ambition has gradually changed with my growing maturity. I cannot tell exactly where the change originated from - reading? personal experience? or the word of my history teacher ‘Behind every significant historical event are economy issues’? Maybe all of them together made up the butterfly effect. What I knew for sure is that I was in urgent need of studying the mechanism of the human society I live in, for it best echoes the calling of my life ambition. So economics became my major interest four years ago.
One area that is of great interests to me is Macroeconomics and Monetary Theory. More specifically, I want to make current economic theories well integrated with the working of economic system in China. As the modern theory of economics is mainly established over European and American...
