Story of Stuff Essay

Computers, Radio sets, DVDS, Toys, Foods etc, they are all stuff, they are existing around us, serve us, improve our standard living, even take care of us. However, many people do not know where they are come from, how they are made and the role of them in our life. “The story of stuff” was analyzing a process in which show how stuff are extracted, produced, distributed, consumed and destroyed. This report will discuss one part of the “stuff system”, that part is stuff extraction.
In the “story of stuff”, a lecturer gives us the system of stuff includes: the extraction, the production, the distribution, the consumption and the disposal. In the first part of the system, the extraction is the natural resources exploitation. In this part, the stuff was exploited of the natural resources. People use modern equipments, machines to search and indentify the sources. After that, they build factories in the place that they have found the sources of stuff, next they use exploitative machines in order to extract the stuff of that sources. All of their work seems very normal because people always try to find more sources of energy to contribute for the modern life.
However, the big problem was exploded when people are running out of the natural resources. They cut down trees, wipe out animal, blew up mountains and use to much stuff. In the clip, the lecturer said that one third of natural resources of the earth are gone. In the United States of America (USA), forests are less than four percent, forty percent of waterways becomes undrinkable. The other problem, people not only use to much stuff but also use more than share.US has five percent of world populations but they use thirty percent of the global resources. If every people in the world consume like the rate consumption of US, people need to have five planets like the earth. Eighty percent of the original global resources are gone.
