“27 Dresses” The film 27 Dresses (2008) directed by Anne Fletcher is a romantic comedy that tell the story of a woman who fulfills the saying: always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Jane Nichols has been a part of twenty seven weddings and has kept every dress much to the amazement of the reporter who is covering her sister’s marriage to man she thought she was in love with. This film tells the story of how one woman transformed herself from the bridesmaid to the bride. The director’s use of editing, characters and costumes all contribute to make this film the best it can be. By examining the film we can see the use of all these to illustrate the narrative of one woman’s journey of falling in love. This film is directed by Anne Fletcher who has done romantic comedies before, such as The Proposal which makes this film better since Fletcher helps balance the comedy and romance in it. She has also been a choreographer for other romantic comedies, for example She’s All That, which also gives her behind the scenes experience in creating a romantic comedy film. Jane Nichols, the main character (Katherine Heigl), is the woman that is always taking care of other people and is in love with weddings; so much that she has been a bridesmaid and astounding twenty seven times. The male protagonist is Kevin Doyle (James Marsden) a newspaper reporter assigned to cover all weddings in the city of New York. The film starts with Jane is rushing back and forth between two weddings in which she is a bridesmaid, changing in the backseat of a taxi cab so she can be involved in both celebrations. At this point Kevin Doyle comes in; he is the reporter assigned to cover one of the weddings she is attending and is intrigued because of the fact that she is still in love with the idea of love while he is more cynical towards it.
