I am a smoker; I do realize that smoking cigarettes is bad for me. There are hundreds of different illnesses you can get by smoking. Smoking can affect you lungs first off, but also gives you cancers is many different areas. You can get cancer of the mouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, cervix, kidney, ureter, and bladder. Smoking weakens your immune system overall, making your body more susceptible to a cold or flu of some sort. Smoking affects your heart, which most people don’t realize. You’re more likely to suffer from a heart attack if you’re a smoker. Smoking causes 30% of all deaths from cancer. 90% of lung cancer cases. Smoking reduces a person’s life-span by 15 years on average.
A cigarette is made up of 4,000 different chemicals, 43 which are known to cause cancer, and 400 other toxins. These are just some of the facts about smoking. Smoking is not liked overall by people. That’s the main reason there are so many people protesting outside of tobacco companies everyday. That’s the reason people don’t want to be around smoke, why restaurants and other stores ban smoking, or have a small sections where it’s allowed. The worst thing about smoking is that it can be so easily prevented. It’s not like a brain tumor and you never knew how it happened. It’s not like a car accident that you couldn’t really stop. It’s about you yourself, picking up that cigarette and lighting up. It’s the most preventable cause of death ever.

More than 100,000 people die every year from smoking, or second hand smoke. One person dies every 5 minutes from a some kind of smoking caused disease. Tobacco crops take up so much space in about 120 countries, therefore, less space for food crops. If that space was used for food crops, 10 to 20 million more people could be fed.
