I. Introduction
Since the day of the first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia’s Foreign Policy has always been basically following the national interest, pragmatism and adherence to the principles stated in the Charter of United Nations. Malaysia’s Foreign Policy continually changes over the years to suit the environment; it can be happened as Malaysia had never been linked with any kind of ideology. This gives Malaysia opportunity to continually realign its policy to meet the changing needs of Malaysia national interest.
Malaysia’s Foreign Policy under Dr. Mahathir was began to take much greater effort in terms of the economic orientation than what have ever been done by the previous Prime Minister, Dr. Mahathir also tried to make a strong and nationalistic defends of the rights, interest and aspirations of developing countries and advocacy of south-south cooperation.
There have been so many contributions given by Dr. Mahathir to Malaysia, especially for his effort for putting Malaysia on the world map in terms of foreign policy was one of his very great success. There are also big contibution given by Dr. Mahathir to the war occured in Bosnia Herzegovina.
The prominent role delivered by Malaysia during that time was known through out the world. This made a small country like Malaysia was being seen as a small yet have a capability and heard by other countries. The development of the war and Malaysia’s effort in solving the war include her standing for rights of independence state and humanity had affected the foreign policy of Malaysia towards Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This paper aims to understand Malaysian foreign policy through the case of Bosnian war under the regime of Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed.
