As we all know, writing an essay can be a daunting and really frustrating task. One of the things you have to worry about is the structure of your essay - get this wrong, and chances are you'll be quite heavily penalised by the person who is responsble for marking your work. I've decided to do a paper that will act as a very basic and easy step by step guide to helping you write an essay. This deals with the structure of the essay.
1. INTRODUCTION
What I wrote above, is basically my introduction for this essay. You always start off your essay with an introduction -which is a short explanation in your own words of your understanding of the topic that must be discussed in the paragraphs to come. You can't just simply repeat the essay question you've been asked or the problem statement here, you have to show that you have interpreted what you're going to be writing about.
2. MAIN DISCUSSION
The main discussion forms the biggest part of your essay answer. This is where you develop your argument and give reasons for your answer. The main discussion needs to be divided into headings and subheadings, and further divided into paragraphs. You should make sure that each paragraph only deals with one key point or idea, or else things start getting messy and confusing, and your writing skills will be questioned.
3. CONCLUSION
The conclusion is basically a summary of your main discussion, and is the conclusion you've come to after reviewing your main discussion. You shouldn't put any new info here, it should just be a nice rounding up of your essay.
And that's it! The key elements to a successful written essay.
