1. Introduction

247 Overnight Couriers is a small courier firm of which operates out of ten regional depots and also has one logistics centre in the UK. The organisation has fabricated profit by using approaches of minimal cost hence there being no functional information system to date. However from this they are able to cut prices to win over customers from competitors. It has come apparent that the Chief Executive Sid Bowles has not taken to computers very well and believed that they were untrustworthy and an unnecessary expense for the company. However the main reason for the companies’ loss is due to the lack of permanent staff and a robust payroll system along with the lack of procedures put in place.

Despite Bowles thoughts the depot Manager in Birmingham had a bespoke system created in Microsoft Access in order to save time and resources. Recognition was given by Bowles and so the bespoke system was duplicated at each depot and is now used by all the Managers from each depot. Due to the recent delivery failures and consent loss of consignments it became apparent that some sort of system needs to be put in place for 247 Overnight courier in order for them to take on potentially one of the largest UK-based mail retailers.
