Black   Venus was created by Niki de Saint-Phalle in 1965-67, which was painted polyester. The   painting is 9’2”x 2’11x 2”. The work of art   is now located at the
Whitney Museum of American Art, NewYork. This work of art was found on page 532 of Living with Art textbook (22.13). This work of art best fit in the sculpture category. Also this work of art is abstract. The color in this object is defining the designs on this work of art. The balance is used to hold the ball and maintain the standing position. The proportion of the lower and upper part of the body is showing great emphasis on the shape and size. The form of the object is three dimensional. The values of the two main colors on the object which are black and white are distinguishing the skin from the clothing. The patterns of the hearts and flowers are repeated numerous of times on the sculpture. The gloss of the blackness makes the object appear smooth. The method to create this object was casting. The artwork does tell a story, although, this object is indicating that the character is happy and satisfied. The shape of the object is indicating the object is a confident full figured woman. Also the head on the sculpture is extremely small and has no face which is stating that a face does not determines who a person is but body language can determine a persons   character. She (object) is not intimidated by the size of her body. In fact, she is showing that her full figure is not prohibiting her to have fun. Also space is shown in this object between the arms as she holds the ball up and between the legs as she positions to throw the ball. Also the ball has lines which are allowing each color to stand out and bring out the design on the ball. The colors on the ball are red, yellow, white, and green which could be representing power and control. The symbols on the object are flowers and hearts.
