While browsing through the internet, I came upon an article about censorship. It was entitled “We Need Censorship” and was written by an anonymous source of the website. Reading through this article almost twice, the author’s clear point of the article was for more censorship in music, movies, and television. My interpretation of the author’s article would have been that parents need to be more cautious and aware of what their children are being exposed to, and help to prevent them from it rather than making it the duty of the FFC to regulate.

The article was geared for a more parental audience, if any in specific. The author’s point of view was quite clear in his opinion, he used many examples of real life situations where no censorship resulted in a serious situation. One that caught my attention mostly was that of a teenager who had listened to a song by a famous heavy metal artist, Ozzy Osbourne, entitled “Suicide Solution” and had committed suicide afterwards. He even included an quote by John Stuart Mill in a rebuttal statement, therefore including a refutation in his argument that free speech was indeed a “wonderful thing, in principle and is the foundation of a democratic society and many of the principles that modern society is based upon.” The author then continues to state that our children are highly sensitive to controversial subjects such as violence and horror, and that they interpret it as being an “ok” thing in society. A clear problem with a resulting solution made for an effective rhetorical image.

What intrigued me the most about this article was that the author used a lot of factual information, instead of just his opinion. He proved to his audience that the children in these situations did not act the way they did because of natural instinct, they had absorbed the behavior through possibly television or violent movies and repeated the actions in real life.
