Cell phones cause 2,600 deaths and 330,000 injuries in the United States every year. That is a high price to pay for something that you pay 49.99 a month for.
The one thing that kills me is in this country that is wavering on our policies and cant come up with a uniform solution. I feel we should ban cell phone use while driving a motor vehichle on public roads.
Here is a list of countries that have already banned cell phone and driving, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Botswana, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Isle of man, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jersey, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turnkey, Britain, Zimbabwe.
This list is factual and their fines are small to large, large being 3 months in jail on third offence in some countrys. The countries range from small to big, you have places Japan and South Korea which are huge cell phone giants a close 1-1 ratio cell phone per person and small guys like Botswana and Kenya where .02 cell phones per. This covers the whole board when it comes to countries banning cell phones and driving.
I was reading and it seemed if you put a 20-year-old driver behind the wheel with a cell phone, their reaction times are the same as a 70-year-old driver who is not using a cell.
Drivers talking on cell phones were 18 percent slower to react to brake lights, they also kept a 12 percent greater following distance. But they also took 17 percent longer to regain the speed they lost when they braked. Once a driver on cell phone hits his brakes, it takes him longer to get back to the speed of traffic. This makes it so we can blame the cell phone users for a percentage of our traffic problems.
Even hands-free cell phone use distractes drivers. Drivers look at the road but...
