Zookeeper

The branch of my career is Biology. Many Zookeepers go to college for 2 or 4 years. They often study biology, animal science, or some other science (e.g. chemistry). Zookeepers also need to understand math so that they can measure food properly. Zookeepers need good writing and speaking skills too, so that they can take notes and talk to the public. The basic educational requirement for an entry level Zookeeper position has been a high school diploma or GED. However, more and more Zoos are seeking individuals with Associate and Bachelor's degrees in Zoology, Biology, Animal Management and related fields to fill position openings. Some institutions offering these courses are Richmond TAFE, the University of Western Sydney (Kingswood) and Mount Druitt College. Admission to these courses would require an UAI. The career prospects in Sydney, and indeed the whole of Australia, are not very good due to small number of zoos and the popularity of the position. The salary is dependent on the person(s) qualifications and experience.

The day to day knowledge
• One would be biology to see how they work the interactions they have with each other and with the natural environment.
• The second one would be Maths Zookeepers use maths in there day to day basis to measure food, size & weight of animals and size of cages.

This job is a good career for me because I love animals. I always have animals running around my house and I would enjoy working with animals for the rest of my life. I want to show other people how interesting and fun the native animals are.
