INPUT DEVICES:-

Input devices accept data and instructions from the user or from another computer system. It converts our every day information into the computer readable language. These devices take information from user, manipulate data and give output to the user. The programmer has an access to the computer through this device only. The program and the data are fed into the computer through various input devices such as:

1. Keyboard:-
It is a device that resembles to a typewriter. It is used for inputting data to the computer. When an operator depresses a key, encoding takes place that helps the letter appear on the computer. Mostly keyboard is divided into four parts namely:
(a) Numeric, alphanumeric and character keypad.
(b) The numeric keypad.
(c) The special function keypad and
(d) Screen navigation and editing keys.

2. Mouse:-
A mouse has a ball on its underside that is rolled on a flat surface that causes a corresponding movement of a pointer on the screen. The pointer is most often an arrow. A mouse has usually two buttons, the left for common actions and the right for operating system or application-defined actions.

3. Joystick:-
A joystick is used for controlling the cursor movements for execution of the video games programs. Most of the personal computers accept input from joysticks. A simple joystick consists of a long handle with four micro switches arranged in four directions, namely: east, west, north and south with respect to the joysticks.

4. Tracker ball:-
A tracker ball is the modified shape of mouse. In this device ball is on the top side of the tracker ball. The ball is moved by passing the palm over it. Tracker balls are intended for use where desktop space is limited or not available for instance when using a laptop computer.
