Younger children from time to time will let their control steer off course. They can run around in constant motion for long periods of time. Out of their mouths come sounds that have never been heard before. They will not wait their turn and begin to run into things around them. Then next time they appear to be lost in deep thought or the dreaded daydream. Followed by the lack of attention span and the ability to finish what they started. These descriptions can describe almost every child on certain days.

However, for a few children, this is the life they live. They do not have the occasional day with issues, it is everyday occurrence plagued with these problems. They have these distractions all the time and cause interference with their daily lives. These symptoms are tattle-tale signs of an illness called attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

These are the children that have a difficult time interacting with siblings and other students at school. Their lack of control over things they do can cause major distractions during class and not only affect their learning but, the learning of the other classmates. It can have the same type of influence on activities at home, by getting themselves or their siblings into trouble. This impulsive nature may put them in actual physical danger and lead to serious harm to them or others.

This condition controls the brain in these children and makes it extremely difficult for them to control their behavior. The American Psychiatric Association (APA) has defined ADHD as developmentally inappropriate attention and/or hyperactivity and impulsivity so pervasive and persistent as...
